Rejecting Uncleanness

Mark 1
21. Then they went into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath He entered the synagogue and taught.
22. And they were astonished at His teaching, for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.
23. Now there was a man in their synagogue with an unclean spirit. And he cried out,
24. saying, "Let us alone! What have we to do with You, Jesus of Nazareth? Did You come to destroy us? I know who You are the Holy One of God!"
25. But Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be quiet, and come out of him!"

In this incident in the life of the Lord Jesus Christ, we are not told how this unclean spirit affected the man whose life it was destroying. Many people wonder where in the life would an unclean spirit live.

The answer lies in the fact that God has made humans to be three-part beings: we are spirit, soul and body. Unclean spirits can affect us in any of our three parts.

In our spirit, we can have hindrances in relating to our heavenly Father if we or our ancestors have been involved in the worship of any but Almighty God. The lesser gods from the past sometimes plant in us an unclean spirit which keeps us back spiritually.

The soul is composed of our thinking, feeling, motivation and personality. An unclean spirit bothering our thinking can take our thoughts along deviant pathways. Many times they can affect a person's thoughts so that they become obsessed with certain kinds of subjects.

The thoughts always end up going in one direction only, and many times it is a destructive direction. This is many times the root of unclean sexual thoughts. But it can apply to any other area of thinking. This is then reinforced when the unclean spirit attracts in our life friends who will encourage these destructive thought patterns.

Sometimes an unclean spirit can mess with our emotions, so that we feel constantly dirty and defiled and unable to accept forgiveness. Sometimes we may not be able to forgive ourselves. Or our feelings may be disturbed so that we believe that others are unclean, dirty and defiled.

If there is trouble with an unclean spirit in the area of motivation, a person may find that they constantly have a strong desire to go in a destructive direction, because this unclean spirit is tampering with our desires and motivations, even though we may not naturally desire that direction in life.

An unclean spirit at work in the body may open us up to illnesses that are revolting and cause others not to want to be around us. Often when an illness is caused by an unclean spirit, it does not yield to medical treatment. When the evil spirit is rebuked, the medical treatment is able to deal with the condition.

Prayer:
Father, in the mighty name of the Lord Jesus, I reject from my life every uncleanness of spirit, soul or body. I want to come before you clean through the blood of Jesus,Amen.
