My burden is Light

Mark 1
21. Then they went into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath He entered the synagogue and taught.
22. And they were astonished at His teaching, for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.
23. Now there was a man in their synagogue with an unclean spirit. And he cried out,
24. saying, "Let us alone! What have we to do with You, Jesus of Nazareth? Did You come to destroy us? I know who You are the Holy One of God!"
25. But Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be quiet, and come out of him!"
26. And when the unclean spirit had convulsed him and cried out with a loud voice, he came out of him.

One characteristic of the ministry of Jesus was the compassion He always showed to people.
What His teaching revealed, He healed.
The man's problem was not exposed in order to embarrass him, but so that Jesus could rid the man of it.

But, you say, wasn't the man embarrassed by what happened to him in the synagogue, with all that convulsing and loud crying out?
Probably not, when you think of the immense oppressive weight that was lifted from his life. Just think of how much freedom and lightness came into him as a result of all that happened in church that day.

Then think of the good changes the people around - who knew him best - saw in his life thereafter. If after all those good results, that man had decided to waste his life thinking how embarrassing the process of freedom was, then his life afterwards would truly have been squandered by looking back to that day with embarrassment.

He probably thought about it like this:
"I laid down my dignity for an hour or so, and God gave me the right to take my life back and live it in great liberty! Praise God!"
In fact when he walked out of that synagogue that day, it was indeed the first day of the rest of his life.

This is what Jesus said about this kind of freedom:
"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden,
and I will give you rest.
"Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me,
for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
"For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."
(Matthew 11 : 28 - 30 NKJV)

Father, thank You for the rest my soul finds in the gentleness of the Lord Jesus.
Thank You that You remove the oppressive burdens, and replace them with Yours, which is light and comfortable.
Thank You, Lord Jesus, for providing this freedom for me,
